Children Should Be Punished For Their Children Essay
As children get older and more curious, they often tend to find themselves in a bit of trouble. For parents, choosing the way in which they should punish their children can be a challenge. Some parents believe that spanking their children is the best approach. Other parents, however, believe that spanking their child is not correct and can cause problems for the child. That being said, for the most part, parents can agree that children need some sort of discipline. They may not agree on the exact way children should be punished, but most would agree that children need to be punished for their wrong doings. One way to avoid this conflict would be to simply allow parents to punish their children however they see fit. Instead of insisting that one parent knows better than the other, they should allow one another to punish their child the way they choose. To add to that, punishment can only go so far before it becomes abuse, in which case someone needs to step in. To add to that, educati ng parents on abuse, and how a child will respond to certain forms of punishment is another way to solve the problem. Some parents believe that spanking children is not the way to go about punishing them. ââ¬Å"Spanking doesn t make kids behave better right away and it leads to worse behavior in the long run, said Gers off, an associate professor of human development and family sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. Paradigms for People with Logical Processes-myassignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about theParadigms for People with Logical Processes. Answer: After going through the book I then landed up with a whole new set of mind and also viewpoint of thinking, judging and interacting capacity with other people. Stephens individual source of information and experiments it has enforced many worthy treasure into book and creating it into a good source of knowledge for many people who aspire to become highly effective person. The book of habits regards the distinctiveness of people from their own views, acts and characteristics and how one should use such factors in managing things and create change within ourselves plus in others as well. I can fairly say that Mr. Covey has made a lot of personality change within me and will have repeated ongoing memorandums inside my mind with my professional and social and personal life. The message in the book of habits ended a substantial impact on my leadership and follow up skills while communicating and listening to other people gathered around me has changed my viewpoint on respecting peoples respective assistances and status. The origination of the book of habits paradigms has also offered me you watch a great replication of my life in my work and going to the university. How Stephen emphasized on the realism and values as the two different charts within each person as a different standard and how our understandings reflects our actions made a sensation within me and this allowed me believe in my actions and apply to them based on the reality of what I see also what I should be. My inner being reflected at this of time while reading that how forceful it was and even I started changing my way of thinking. I was capable to analyze that I was involved in looking for the reality of life and what other people needed me to become in my professional and personal life and I totally forgot that what type of person I wanted become. My personality has become inflexible as I saw myself in a box with straightforward thinking people with logical processes. This case occurred due to my engineering career in this field. I had forgotten that how to think innovative and value the change happening in my life, I would have seen this change a developed myself and never question till this point of time. Mr. Coveys note lays emphasis on that we see the things in a way in which we want to see or we want to assume not in the way they actually are. The process of self-realization process to which I continued started at the beginning of the book by Stephen. This was incredible insight that how beautifully he targeted all the concepts accurately such growth, paradigm and change a new level of thinking. I was unable to help myself but engross with these studies and just sit there and analyze the how own thinking can be wrong only if I wanted to be a leader as well as an effective person. I actually realized that I always try to reach my goal through shortcut and try to something that I am not instead of taking the hard constructive road to achieve the place where I always wanted to be. I can say that this can also be a small image of my experience and paradigm where the road has sent me to or is that a habit which I have developed with the change of time? This is an interrogation to which I should consider and seek for answer from myself. What I have earned after reading the book is that I have to completely go through a change of my fundamental principles and attitude and try to develop myself and become an effective person to me and other people around me. A quote which Stephen conveys from page no 18 that really summarized my situated and hit me was: The process of ignoring the long gone roads and switching it with shortcut will not help in the process of development. This phrase is against the law of nature and seeking for such shortcut will only result in failure. As per my view, Mr. Coveys introduction to the book focusing on such notions is actually a point where a person can also self-analyze and look at what position they stand as an individual, look where is the base in their life a whether they should be there or they should not be there; development, personality, features, thinking, dreams and reality. The explanation of these seven aspects are further seen as a guide to improve the base and become a leader which they always wanted to be, influence positively and create successful results on not only individuals life but also in others life. My views on this part of the book were explained to which I was given enough time to evaluate myself and see where I position myself. I was expecting that these 7 habits would guide me for future actions and development program and changing myself according to desire paradigm that I had forgotten much before and was unable to achieve them. The recognition from the family, social and work life which I was occupied with having such an outcome on my views and progress allowed me to acknowledge the depth present in the book and focus on the true meaning of its motto. Later I encountered the fact that I was on the road of changing myself after this, I was able to see it clearly by the way I acted on things and imagined about real life understandings that I faced after going through this segment 7 Habits. As I started to go through the book habits which is explained by author Stephen Covey, in the following book, I sensed a relieved feeling and also I felt realization. My perspectives stated in above case, were somehow true and fair about the habits were relevant and confessed with a depth. I only could read the ideas also analyze that how my preferred paradigms were fluctuating to a different end point that I wanted to achieve. I knew that I had an operative target to achieve and the rules, or as Stephen describes it as the foundations, to achieve the set of goals that I aimed were now with me. The position beyond this state was to halt the stress that brought up on me by the reality and also it will drift me to be an active person, whether leader or subordinate that doesnt matter. I always dreamt of myself as a practical person till the time I read and implicated the true meaning of the words from the volume. The book 7 Habits of highly effective person which is written by Stephen has a simple quotation which actually changed my thinking of being a concrete person which is, we human existence are responsible for the decisions we make, actions we do in our life, one can also suppress their own feeling in order to make things happen and work as a practical person in real life. I felt that it is the need that I want to be purely practical also not let the circumstances that are around me, decide me and change me from changing me for an effective person. That time I was very approachable person in nature and my well-being, and again looking forward to Stephens discussion of paradigms, I never interrogated my state of affairs. This type of thinking really helped to change my attitude at my work place as well as at home and at university. I have actually started bec oming more practical than reactive and I know this will for sure help me with time. My increasing proactive nature always encouraged me to take initiatives and innovations such as, I finally started with reinventing sections of my house whose plans I have been canceling off from few years back and also I took the challenge for my future of becoming a chartered engineer to which I am applying currently. All these acts convey me that how in depth I was moved by Stephens motto and that my personality was changing in a positive way to be more proactive. I started to manage the problems occurring around me, be it at my workings or home in fact I was also initiating to put on quality standards in my work and I actually got affirmative results for the same from my manager on my workings at creating the first rough draft for assignment that has not ever operated in Sydney for rail purpose. I was thrilled by seeing such changes happening in my life and I am determined and seriously feeling to go for the Stephens 30 days challenge on the principles of practicality test. I think with self-images and optimistic thinking to change my way of thinking and solicitation of becoming a proactive person has now allowed me to imagine myself in a state in my mind and add pieces to the jigsaw puzzle of my life together. I now surely know that I will definitely achieve the post of a manager and will practically achieve all my standards set. This is the end of my state and this is what I actually wanted to create and achieve by taking the long hard roads and going through the phase of change. Till the time I am clear with my vision and not distracted, I know that I will gain it. I guess now I can say that I have a purpose of coming in this field of masters of engineering management. In the beginning I started telling it to my own self that it is very good to have it then again now I can surely use this to force to gain profit at the end of the day. Firstly you have to create a vision in your mind, thinking of that mission one ha perform task on the basis of which ones progress and it shall also contribute to your success is also defined Stephen Covey, The 7 Habit of Highly Effective Person, Page no. 47. By doing a bachlor in civil engineering also going through masters in engineering management, I actually visualized myself as a well self-controlled person. I think which I am becoming today and everything that I have accomplished till date is due to my discipline only. However I was lacking proactivity in my nature and an end goal in my mind to give me further motivation. And how could it be when I had no actual end position to achieve. As stated in the above case, due to which now I have developed a goal and now the disciplines present in my nature motivates me for the same also make me do things to which I had denied earlier. In The 7 habits of highly effective person, page no 76 repeats by saying an effective manager of your own needs to discipline yourself and also do things according to your own free will and work in a way that failure dont do. And I hope that this sense of realization will allow me to be extra dedicated and concentrated towards my goals. After going through a valuable segment of this book, the one which I actually enjoyed, I could see many jigsaw puzzle pieces joining together. How will I become an effective and a smart person in time before its too late? I think it begins with a motive to modify myself and when that change is incorporated you can easily see how things go according to you. I knew that have already started going through this because Stephens learning were making sense to me. Initially I thought of things with a perspective of an engineer to find logics but later I realize that this was applicable sometimes not most. Now I had started doing things in a more tactical, calculative and proactive way at work place but I also considered this in my personal life experience and all the credits goes to the 7 habit of highly effective person. Maybe I am restating to what I had already told but I have to tell not only this paragraph but also these lines affected me in real life. Another phrase of Mr. Coveys book, which laid particular emphasis on listening to and understanding the people who are far across from you to make them understand better, thus allowing everyone to be more efficient and efficient person through encouragement. On seeing my skill I realized that it is not that great. In fact many times I often call off on people because they might know my answers also I get over excited my times. So in all cases I knew that I dont listen to people across from me and wont be able to understand them. To which I am trying to adapt and this thing has greatly affected and my office and personal life. Maybe one day I will control my emotions and discipline myself and then would be able to listen to others properly. It was also fascinating to see how Stephen stated that no person can get training or listening skill and it can be developed on through ones own frame of references, then I knew I will take some time but surely will gain perfection in listening one day. In the book of habits page 121 relates to my thoughts in the succeeding statement that if a person wants to interacts in an effective and efficient way or to make an impression on their own spouse, brother, father etc. you firstly need to understand and listen to your own self. Further I even feel that a change in my mind set, way of thinking and personality is due to this book, I know that this will turn me and modify me into a person who will pay attention to comprehend things in life journey than a person who heeds to react. This was an exceptional point of discussion which was stated in his book that is people usually do not listen to others, they just listen to them reply to their word but nt to actually understand what the other person is trying to speak. They are even making the situation more complicated. To summarize the above situation, there are many things that one person can write about in the book of habits and how these things affected them in different ways. The ideas which Stephen discussed were amazing; this has surely gained much more information for people to actually understand and explain that how one can truly be an effective person in reality. Effectiveness does not only mean leadership to me however this study also applies to ones life in day to day. Through the book of habits I have gained knowledge about human psyche and nature and how to impact your habits to turn into an effective person. The book of habits also helped me in the process of shifting my paradigms and inventing a new set of habits in to my world of discipline. Truthfully speaking, I was a bit doubtful about reading the book and assumed it as another key of success type books. When I started reading the book of habits I got know that how these ideas affected ones life and they also guided me to achiev e the success which I had dreamt of. There is no spell or word to gain success but ones has to adapt such things in their nature and way thinking and through effective working habits, self-actualization process of developing myself and knowing the fact that where a person shall assume himself to be without getting affected by the reality of life. This is certainly the only way to succeed which I will surely apply in my professional career as well as personal life which I known will help me in becoming a proactive person.

Introduction Operational Management is defined as an area in business which mainly concentrates on the production of goods and services involving the responsibility of ensuring that business operations are proficient and effectual in terms of meeting the customersââ¬â¢ rations.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Operational Management Effectiveness specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The manager in charge of operational management is struck with various responsibilities. The main one includes; managing and directing technical functions of an organization. Technical functions are tasks such as business growth, fabrication and manufacturing and processing of raw materials into finished goods. Other responsibilities that are entitled to an operational manager are to see to it that the operations management programs of the firm are followed. These programs comprise of manufacturing and production systems, equipment main tenance management, production control, strategic manufacturing policy and industrial labor relations, skilled trade supervision and human resource management. Operational management mainly targets the customers, therefore it is their formal duty to see to it that customersââ¬â¢ needs are prioritized and met with immediate efficiency. Stanbic bank is one of the most competent banks around and it is for that reason that we are going to make some few changes in the customer service so as to keep the bank on top. This branch has been rated in the top five of all Stanbic branches of the bank for the last year and the changes that we are going to make are going to see to it that we keep that position. In trying to find the solution to the bankââ¬â¢s branch problem, we are predetermined to follow some of operations managementââ¬â¢s principles and theories. Some of the basic things this article is going to focus on are ââ¬Ëtheories of constraintsââ¬â¢. This theories focus on the achievement of managerial constraints through system constraints. The application guidelines to implement this methodology are as follows; Identifying the constraints that affect the whole company Exploit constraints Subordinate process that could be used Elevate constraints Repeat cycle. These theories of constraints concentrate on the weakest links in the operation system to achieving a better productivity. Here are the steps followed in details;Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Step1. Identify the constraints: This process limits the throughput of the system Step2. Exploit the constraints: There are many ways into which this step can be done depending on the type of process that is being dealt with here. I found out that when this step is used, the throughout of the constraint is maximized. Step3. Subordinate process: This step is usually applied before the constrai nt to avoid or prevent the building-up of inventory that may occur during this process. Step4. If the thorough put is still not satisfactory, the constraints must be improved even more or completely eliminated from the operations of the company Step5. Repeat cycle: The process is an ongoing development process, new constraints must be identified and the steps must be repeated for those constraints. According to my branch operations analysis, customer service is one crucial area that needs changes. Customer service is said to be provision of services to the customer. Heize and Render defines it as activities developed to improve and ensure customer satisfaction. (Heize Render, 2008, p. 25) This means that the customer should feel that the product or service has met his or her expectations and needs. The importance of customer service changes with the services and products provided the industry and the customer being handled. Customer service is a crucial part of customer value propo sition in the company because customers will remember you even if you donââ¬â¢t remember them and their trust will fade if the level of customer service in your company is low.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Operational Management Effectiveness specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Without a good customer service whether you reduce prices or offer discounts, you will only attract the customers but you will not get them to come back. Good customer service is therefore mainly about getting your customers to come back again and sending them away happy and satisfied. Its essence is to create a good and lasting relationship with the customer that the customer would love to maintain. Evenson states that some of the qualities or activities of a good customer service includes answering your phone whenever a customer calls the business so that they are attended to all the time. You should also make only promises that you can keep so that you can be reliable to the customers and strengthen your relationship. Nothing annoys the customer like a broken promise. (Evenson, 2005, p. 89) You should also listen to your customers problems and complains and be attentive while they talk so that they feel that you care about them and that you are interested in helping solve the problems that they have. Another good quality is to deal with the customers complaints in the best way possible whether it is their fault or yours. You should also be helpful all the time even if there is no profit to gain, train your staff to be always helpful and courteous and take an extra step to improve your customer service. These are the general customer service qualities and activities that companies should practice. They however differ in different industries and institutions. The banking industry has been known to improve their customer service in order to be effective and maintain as many customers as possible. Real banks deal with a large number of customers and they have to create a god relationship with the customers so that they can be loyal and come back again. They have branches all over and they have to ensure a good customer service in the branches as well. Keyes explains that for real banks to improve their customer service in the branches, they have to start by examining the events that happens everyday in the branches that mostly affect either positively or negatively how the customer perceives the bank. (Keyes, 1999, p. 214) It is from these events that the banks can know what part to improve so that they can maintain the loyalty of their customers.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Qualities and roles of operational management Banks have branches locally with some having branches all over the world. Their image to the customers is therefore an important factor in ensuring that they are prosperous. They therefore do not only maintain a good customer service at the main office but also in the branches. The branches are in fact more crucial because many customers can access the branches more than the main office and therefore the kind of customer service they find in the branches will determine if they remain loyal to the bank or seek another bank which gives a better customer service. Carlaw Deming believe that for banks to improve their customer service, the management team of the banks has to hire, train and maintain the best customer support representatives that have the qualities necessary to maintain a good customer service. (Carlaw Deming, 1998, p. 114) Qualities needed to deliver good customer service Banking skills These skills are required for the cus tomer service representatives in banks. The qualities needed under the banking skills include the knowledge of the banks products and services. The representatives should be well acquainted with the products and services that the bank is offering so that they can be able to explain it to a customer who doesnââ¬â¢t know much about the products or services and does not know which service or product to choose that suits his or her interest. Kamin explains that this quality shows that the representatives understand their company and this builds confidence in the customer for example if a customer does not know which account to open for his or her savings and the representative explains all the types of accounts to her with every detail and recommends an account for her then he or she will be confident in the representative and in themselves too. (Kamin, 2006, pp 108) It also maintains the professional image of the banks and it draws more customers. Another quality needed for the bank ing skills is knowledge of the bank policies. The representatives should know the bank policies used in handling certain issues for example complaints. This quality will help in solving any problems that may occur in the banks with the customers for example when there are many customers in the bank that need attention then the representative should apply the bankââ¬â¢s policies of first come first serve. This will demonstrate reliability of the bank to the customers and prompt them to come again Communication skills These skills are also a crucial requirement for the customer service representatives of the banks to have. Spector McCarthy state that Communication skills enables the representatives to communicate effectively with the customers and entail a lot of qualities or sun skills like effective communication, active listener, good telephone communicator and others that a representative should have. (Spector McCarthy, 2005, pp 127) The representatives should know how to han dle telephone calls by ensuring that they receive all the calls from customers any time and ensuring that they handle the conversation well and to the customerââ¬â¢s satisfaction for example if a customer needs to talk to the manager who is not in, the representative should be able to explain to the customer that the person they are looking for is out and what time they will be back and if he or she can take a message. This will be courteous to the customer and having been treated with respect will boost his loyalty. Attentiveness during communication is also necessary. When communicating to customers, you should be as attentive as possible and make sure that the customers do not have to repeat themselves unless necessary. This will demonstrate mental alertness of the representatives and show that they are interested in whatever the customer is talking about and also show that they care about the customerââ¬â¢s needs. This helps in building the loyalty of the customer and solv ing any problems for example if a customer has complains about a service offered to him or her at the bank, you should be able to listen to him or her attentively and try and help him or her solve the problem. This will prompt the customer to come back and use more services of the bank having in mind that in case of any problems, it will be handled effectively. Technological skills These skills are also important for effective customer service in banks. The customer service representatives are required to be well trained in technology and be acquainted with the technological developments for example the knowledge of computers and even the use of automated machines. This technological ability enables the representative to apply technical knowledge and skills when performing his or her duty. This ability also makes works easier and the representatives can draw the customers to the bank without the customer coming physically to the bank. It also helps the bank to organize their work an d activities well so that the customer can be easily attracted to its services and therefore become loyal to the bank for example if a customer wants his or her bank statements then the representative having the knowledge of the computers and printers can easily print the statements and give it to the customer immediately instead of waiting for someone who has the knowledge. Personal skills These skills are also required for good customer service. Personal skills include things like honesty, ability to persuade, time keeping and quick decision maker. Bonomo believes that the ability to persuade for example will help you persuade customers to come to your bank and also to be loyal to the bank but this will depend on your ability to persuade them and how you also interact with them. (Bonomo, 2002, p. 34) The quality of quick decision maker will help you make decisions for example which account to open for a customer in the bank and this will make you efficient. Good personal skills ar e very integral skills for a good customer care service assistant. Personal skills will determine how you treat the customer and this will eventually determine the productivity of the customer care relations in that company Role of Operations management in supporting front line staff effectively For the representatives to be very effective, the management of the banks must be supportive enough towards the representatives by training them and giving tem morale and even showing them directions. Training sessions.à Collie Violano state that the management should organize training sessions and workshops for the representatives so that they can learn more on good customer care service and interact with each other to share ideas on how to be good customer service representatives. (Collie Violano, 2002, p. 156) This will help them sharpen their skills and be acquainted with the current issues surrounding customer service. The management should also be supportive enough to the represent atives by ensuring that they are working in a conducive environment for example they should offer refreshments like tea and also give them reasonable breaks like a one hour lunch breaks. The management can also organize staff retreats and team building activities for every branch and also parties for all the branches. This can be an opportunity for the representatives from different branches to share and learn from each other and it also gives them time to relax and be able to work well Staff members are an integral part of an organization and therefore management should ensure that they are taken good care of. Operations management should therefore ensure that employees are given a good remuneration package with an appraisal package and recognition. When employees perform well, they should be recognized either by being awarded or by being promoted. These promotions and rewards will motivate the employee to perform better because he will be certain that the management cares about hi s needs of being promoted. It will also motivate other employees to work harder so that they can be promoted Management should organize conferences and forums for employees to improve their effectiveness in their work place. Conferences and forums help them to meet with other customer care representatives from other companies and compare notes and also share the challenges that they go through and give suggestions on how they can overcome these challenges. These conferences also make the employees aware of the current issues and requirements of customer care service and this will improve how they work. The conferences will also improve the skills of the employees because they will be learning new ideas on how to improve their customer service skills and apply them in their working areas hence improving the image of the company that they are working for Measuring customer satisfaction Hayes believes that the management can use many methods to find out if their customers have been sat isfied. (Hayes, 1998, p. 46) The banks can conduct informal surveys on the customers to find out the level of the service for example after being served in the bank, the customer can fill out a written service on how the general service at the bank was and management can analyze the responses to know how the customers rate their customer service. The management can also use comment cards. These are small cards where customers can write their comments about the bankââ¬â¢s service. The management will therefore analyze the details of the comments and react to them adequately. Verbal comments of the customers are another way to measure how the customer service of the bank is doing. If the customers are happy and praising the services that they have received at the bank then this is a sign that they are doing well and if the customers are complaining then they will have to improve their customer service. Management can also use the historical data of the bank to measure the customer satisfaction of the bank. If the past information on customer satisfaction of the bank has been good then the management can conclude that the bank has been delivering good services to the customers and therefore management will put in strategies to maintain the same trend and if possible improve the customer service. The sales of the bank can also be used to measure the satisfaction of the customers. If the customers are treated well then they will tend to purchase more and therefore the sales will be high and this will show that they are satisfied. On the other hand if they are not treated well they will not use the services of the banks and the sales will reduce indicating that the customers are not happy with their work or work environment and therefore they are not satisfied. The banks can also use corporate generated surveys which will show the position of the bank among other corporate and if it is highly ranked then it will mean that the customers are happy with the services of the bank and that is why they have ranked it highly and if it is ranked lowly then it means that the customers are not satisfied. The position of the bank will enable the management know the level of customer satisfaction in their bank and how they can improve that level of management. Discussions with internal customers can also be a way to measure customer satisfaction. The management can discuss with internal customers how the bankââ¬â¢s customer service is and if they have been treated well and if they are satisfied. Since internal customers are regular customers, there answers are genuine and can be used as a basis to know whether the customer service at the bank is effective. Management can also use focus groups to know if their customers have been satisfied. Hayes states that these groups focus on customer satisfaction in companies by assessing the views of the customer. (Hayes, 2008, p.125) If they rate the customer satisfaction at the bank as high then the management will know that their customers are satisfied. The management can also install toll free phone services where the customers can call and give their views on whether they were satisfied or not and how the customer service was. This kind of service is more appropriate, convenient and cheaper to use by the employees. This will help in knowing whether the customers are satisfied or not. Management can also use questionnaires to find out the level of customer satisfaction that the bank is offering. Questionnaires are pieces of papers with questions that ask whether the customer satisfaction has been good or not. The questionnaires are given to all employees to fill and then they are later reviewed and sampled to know whether the employees are satisfied or not. Questionnaires can either be closed where you either respond yes or no or they can be open where you can give an answer and a reason or an opinion to the answer that you have given Conclusion Operations management should be very ef fective in an organization because it is the part of management that will ensure that employees are well taken care of and they are motivated enough to ensure that the goals of the company are achieved. Good customer care service is important to an organization because the customers are the most important resource to an organization and therefore they should be treated with enough care and ensures that they are satisfied Reference Anupindi, Ravi, Sunil C. Essay on Hist Part B Plan Essay on Hist Part B Plan history plan b plan TURNING POINT 1789. "[It is necessary to] reduce, if not destroy, the tendency of Jewish people to practice a very great number of activities that are harmful to civilisation and to public order in society in all the countries of the world. It is necessary to stop the harm by preventing it; to prevent it it is necessary to change the Jews. [...] Once part of their youth will take its place in our armies, they will cease to have Jewish interests and sentiments; their interests and sentiments will be French." this shows how he wanted nationality to become forthright to religion making antisemitism effectively impossible as it implys that the jews are not a race. There was a well laid-out plan for the general massacre of Jews on the day following the Orthodox Easter. The mob was led by priests, and the general cry, "Kill the Jews," was taken up all over the city. The Jews were taken wholly unaware and were slaughtered like sheep. The dead number 120 [Note: the actual number of dead was 47ââ¬â48[10]] and the injured about 500. The scenes of horror attending this massacre are beyond description . The 1931 Central China Floods know as the yellow river floods Research Paper
The 1931 Central China Floods know as the yellow river floods - Research Paper Example The region began to experience heavy snowfall due to cooling of the warm winds from the north, which were deposited majorly in the mountain areas close to the Yellow River basin (Chen, pp.184). As the spring of 1931 approached, the weather started to change coupled with the high temperatures. The high temperatures led to the melting of the snow that flowed into the three major rivers causing a rise in water levels. At the same time heavy rains stroke Central China due to cyclones that increased from the normal two to about nine cyclones causing storm surges in the region. These storm surges increased further the rising water levels of the three rivers especially the Yellow River. For several centuries, farmers had built dikes along the river banks to prevent it from bursting. In turn, this caused accumulation of silt along the riverbed and hence reduced the porosity of the soil around the riverbed and further increased the rising water levels (Shiyang, pp.175). The increasing water levels alongside the heavy rains overcame the dikes in Huayankou around Zhengzhou city in Henan province causing the river banks to burst leading to a massive flood of the central China plains. The drainage routes of the melting snow in the North, West and East Mountains were the three rivers that burst their banks. The water levels rose so high and by August, 1931 the capital city of China by then, Nanjing City was surrounded by an island of water of about a hundred thousand square kilometers. The two major rivers were also affected by the rising snow storms and heavy rains. Yangtze water levels rose to its worst between July and August due to high rainfall in this period, which was recorded to be around 24 inches of rain. On the other hand, Huai River burst its banks and led to an average rise in flood levels at an average of 5.6 ft above Shangai Bund. By

Psychology can help us understand ourselves and others. Discuss with Essay
Psychology can help us understand ourselves and others. Discuss with reference to two of four main topics. a] personality, b] Intelligence, c] emotions, d] cognition - Essay Example Cognition is the process or act of knowing and able to make some judgment about it. It is very broad which include a complicated mental process encompassing functions like perception, memory, learning, and problem solving. Cognition includes more than few elements or processes which all work to describe the manner by which knowledge is built up and also how judgments of people are made. The elements related to these processes are: perceiving, recognizing, reasoning, problem solving, conceptualizing, learning, memory, and language (Scienceclarified, 2008). The individualââ¬â¢s ability to comprehend or the cognition ability is necessary for a scientific understanding what human behavior is all about. According to the investigations of various experts, mental processes like association, recall process, and understanding about language are based on the physical relations or interactions of people with their environment, instead of the body which supports the mind; it is basically viewing the body as a support system for a mind. Cognitive structures advance from perception and action like a software (Turing, 1950) which can run on different hardware systems. Human mind can manipulate abstract symbols based on the interactions of people around via his sensory organs as well as greatly coordinated effectors. Wilson (2002) has six various claims about cognition: 1) cognition is situated; 2) cognition is time pressured; 3) cognition is off-loaded onto the environment; 4) the environment is a component of the cognitive system; 5) cognition is for action; 6) an offline cognition is body based. He further emphasized that, sensorimotor functions which evolved for action as well as perception have been preferred for the application of offline cognition. Therefore, it is logical to say that, cognition is based on the functions of human body and interdependent with the environment. Some current experiments have demonstrated that perceptual as well as motor

Stirling Sports Essay Example for Free
Stirling Sports Essay Stirling Sports opened their first Store on Dominion Road in Auckland in 1964. The first Stirling Sports franchises were awarded in 1983 after Stirling Sports had invested almost 20 years in developing the best sports retail stores in New Zealand. Stirling Sports Dunedinââ¬â¢s mission statements asserts, ââ¬ËThe Dunedin community speaks positively about their Stirling Sport experienceââ¬â¢. Their logo is ââ¬ËWe love our sportââ¬â¢, an apt summary of the passion held by management and staff for their products, service and the specialist knowledge they provide. Stirling Sports is the one of the New Zealand leading retailers of sporting goods. Stirling Sports has a huge range of sports clothing and mens and womens shoes, supporter gear and more. In 2004, Russell and Sue became aware of an opportunity to purchase the Stirling Sports Dunedin area franchise and made the decision to buy within a week. Since they originated from the Otago region, this was an opportunity ââ¬Ëto come homeââ¬â¢. After some negotiation they successfully acquired the franchise and began to determine how best to manage the two operations. After some deliberation, theà decision was made that Sue would move to Dunedin and manage that store, while Russell continued to manage the Kapiti store. Russell and Sue decided to buy the franchise with the existing staff at the Dunedin store. The store had to become profitable, so changes needed to be made. However, the change in structure and process did not suit everyone and staff left. Previously, the store had been managed from Auckland, so some having the manager on-site was very different from the previous management style. Stirling Sports adopts marketing strategies based on the seasonal nature ofà various sports, student population migration during semester and holiday periods, public holidays and festive seasons Christmas is one of the biggest financial periods with equipment, clothing and shoes being in demand for Christmas gifts. In-store specials, glossy flyers, and newspaper and radio advertising are all useful means of marketing their products to all of their customer segments. The March/April period is the second-largest cash-flow period with the beginning of winter sports, such as rugby, soccer, netball, volleyball and basketball, traditionally boosting sales. September/October is also a peak period, with the focus particularly on fitness and getting ââ¬Ëback into shapeââ¬â¢ after the ravages of winter lifestyle choices. Sports such as cricket, tennis and softball also begin which may require the purchase of new equipment, uniforms and speciality footwear. Many sports are now played all year round, which is beneficial in maintaining an acceptable level of monthly sales in addition to seasonal cash-flow peaks. RETRIEVED FROM HTTP://STIRLINGSPORTS. CO. NZ Rebel Sport is a well known brand name throughout New Zealand and Australia. Until 2006, Rebel had no big-box sports competitor, prompting the use of the well-known slogan No ones got more sports gear. However, Lane Walker Rudkin, owners of sports franchise Stirling Sports, have announced plans to launch several large format stores across the country, beginning with a store in Christchurch, which opened in mid-2006. This followed the collapse of a deal between Briscoe Group and LWR a year earlier, which would have seen Briscoe buyout the Stirling franchise. Since Stirlings big box launch, Rebel has dropped their original slogan, which has been replaced with Lets Play, backed by a newà marketing campaign which targets a wider audience from the traditional club-orientated team sport audience. The company is also continuing their aggressive expansion programme, launching several smaller-format stores such as Napier and Taupo to allow branches to reach further into provincial areas. Briscoe Group. (n. d. ). Retrieved March 15, 2014 from http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Briscoe_Group The latest retail customer satisfaction report for New Zealand from research organisation Roy Morgan Research reveals that Rebel Sport has emerged as theà sports store with the highest percentage of satisfied customers. Rebel came in at at 82. 0 percent for the 12 months to December 2009 (up 4. 4 percent points from the 12 months to December ââ¬Ë08). Stirling Sports was third with 77. 5 percent (down 2. 9 percent from the same period). ââ¬Å"The category as a whole has performed below the average for all non-food stores. It seems all sports stores need to close the gap in improving their levels of satisfaction. â⬠Sports Link. Sporting Goods Outdoor Retailing. (May 17, 2010).
